I’m not ashamed to admit that the first ten minutes of the movie Up had me bawling my eyes out. That’s what good IT marketing should be able to do – not necessarily cause you to be an emotional wreck – but invoke a reaction from within you almost instantly. Even though the opening montage of Carl and Ellie’s “Married Life” had zero dialogue, I loved every minute of watching their relationship unfold: from their innocent encounter as kids to them falling in love, getting married, and eventually growing old together. Awww…

A good IT marketing strategy should simply relay your core message right from the start and leave you captivated. Up taught me a lot of valuable life lessons, and also some surprising IT marketing tips. Here’s my breakdown for you.

IT Marketing Tip #1: You’re Never Too Old to Try Something New

Carl was kind of a stubborn old grump in the beginning of the movie – refusing to move out of his house as the surrounding neighborhood is torn down for construction and accidentally injuring somebody for damaging his mailbox. But one thing that Carl wasn’t afraid to carry out was his dream of visiting Paradise Falls. Even though his wife had passed away and he was old enough to retire, Carl never lets go of his promise to Ellie and their dream of flying to South America.

Same goes for your company. It’s never too late to adopt a new IT marketing plan, whether you’re looking to revamp your website, expand your customer base, or implement SEO strategies. As the movie states, “Adventure is always out there!” Don’t be afraid to try new ways of marketing your brand. Technology is always changing, so your business strategy and IT marketing plan should also change and grow with it.

IT Marketing Tip #2: Innovation Can Lead to Success

One of my favorite parts of the movie was when Carl transformed his entire house into a makeshift airship, using thousands of colorful helium balloons to float off the ground. This scene was a classic Pixar magic moment that left me in sheer awe.

Your IT marketing plan should always push the boundaries when it comes to innovation and new ideas. If you’re sick of executing the same marketing tactics, try something new. It doesn’t have to be as creative as a balloon-propelled house, but perhaps you’re ready to launch new MSP videos or reinvent your currentIT content. Whatever the case, don’t be afraid to embrace change and innovation – so your company can reap the benefits.

IT Marketing Tip #3: It’s All About Communication

If you remember the talking dog in the movie (his name is Dug), then you’ll probably remember his famous line: “I have just met you, and I love you.”

Your brand’s IT communication strategy should be as direct and authentic as possible. But don’t be afraid to throw in some personality and pizazz. When people interact with one another, they want the conversation to be genuine and personal. Don’t dilute your brand’s voice with heavy technical jargon and a robotic tone. People want to know what makes you unique. A quality IT marketing plan addresses your business communication needs so that you can show off your personality while still provide relevant content.

At the end of the movie, Carl learns that his marriage to Ellie, and the life they shared together, was all the adventure she wanted in her lifetime. And he receives a note from her telling him to start his own adventure.

Even if you’re comfortable with your current IT marketing strategy, it’s never too late to adopt new practices and tricks to reinvent your brand. We’re here to help you do just that.
